Waikiki's Iconic 'Pink Palace' Preps Grand Makeover for Centennial Celebration
As it approaches its 100th birthday, The Royal Hawaiian, lovingly dubbed the "Pink Palace of the Pacific," is welcoming a transformative makeover set to honor its storied past while celebrating its future.
A Century of Glamour
Standing as a beacon of elegance on Waikiki Beach since 1927, the Royal Hawaiian has enchanted guests with its distinctive pink facade and Spanish-Moorish architecture. In time for its centennial in February 2027, the hotel is set to undergo a comprehensive renovation that promises to enhance its iconic charm while retaining its historical integrity.
Preserving the Past
The refurbishment will respect beloved features, such as the historic wing's original Hawaii state seal-carved doors. The 179-room Mailani Tower will also receive a full update, ensuring each room continues to offer stunning ocean views. Meanwhile, a lighter, more modern air will grace the hotel's lobby and public spaces.
A Celebration to Remember
The hotel plans a series of festivities to celebrate the milestone, including special tours showcasing a newly opened Historic Gallery filled with treasures from its opening day. A special luau and time capsule event herald its next chapter, drawing both nostalgia and anticipation for future generations of guests.
