TSA pauses expansion of Gateside program

TSA Halts Gate Pass Access Expansion
In a move that surprises frequent travelers, the TSA has paused its expansion of the Gateside program, which briefly allowed non-travelers access to airport gates across the U.S.
The Breaking Point
The TSA inaugurated the Gateside by TSA PreCheck program at 13 pilot airports in September 2026, allowing non-ticketed individuals to pass through security. This nod to pre-9/11 travel eased emotional farewells and joyous reunions for many families and friends.
Beneath the Surface
Quietly rolled out to 300 airports, the expansion was a boon for non-traveling companions eager to accompany their loved ones to the gate. Yet, with little fanfare, this broader access was recently canceled without explanation, reverting back to the original 13 airports.
The Ripple Effect
Although the TSA hints at future widespread implementation, many are left wondering when gate-side access will return. For now, hopeful gate companions will have to keep waiting.
